The Maldives is world renowned for its beaches and the underwater beauty. The Maldives is blessed with soft white sandy beaches and amazing thriving underwater life all around the archipelago. Although all the beaches around the almost 2000 islands are beautiful in its own way, the beaches in some atolls are really unique. The beaches in Baa Atoll, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, Haa Alifu and Gnaviyani Atoll are something to talk about.

Baa Atoll is situated on the west of the Maldives atoll chain, it consists of 75 islands of which 13 are inhabited and of these islands, over 8 islands are developed as resorts. Baa Atoll as a biosphere reserve, harbors globally significant biodiversity in its numerous reefs. The designation of Baa Atoll as a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve in June 2011 was a significant achievement for the Maldives, placing it in the company of world famous sites.

The beaches of this atoll make it possible for you to walk long distances, cross the shallow waters of the lagoon and keep on walking to the next island. The beaches of G.Dh atoll are the same, uniquely beautiful and you can walk for hours and keep on crossing to one island after another. Although the beaches around these beautiful islands may not be as wide as some of the beaches across the globe, these Maldivian beaches are famous for its whiteness and softness. The other pleasing factor is the Maldivian beaches are not over crowded. You can actually be alone on your own on most of the beaches in the Maldives. It all depends on which atoll you are in at the time. Wherever you maybe in the Maldives, one thing for sure is that you will fall in love with these stunning beaches of the Maldives. It will create memories that will last forever!

Beaches of South Ari Atoll are talked about by the thousands of visitors traveling to the several resorts dotted across this atoll. Among these are the beaches of Nalaguraidhoo Island, the island resort developed as Sun Island Resort, the biggest resort island in this atoll. Also talked about are the beaches of Dhidhoofinolhu Island, developed as LUX* Maldives, a luxury resort in South Ari Atoll.

Being the second nearest atoll to the Equator and the first atoll in the Southern Hemisphere among the atolls of the Maldives, Fuvahmulah has many distinctive features which make the island unique and more beautiful than the rest of the islands. Fuvahmulah is famous for the uniqueness of its beaches. The white sandy beaches are of different variations with pebble texture, gravel beaches and fertile lands of humus greater in area than any other island in the Maldives. These different variations and textures are not seen among other atoll formations of the Maldives. Fuvahmulah Thundi is also known as the largest beach among the islands in the Maldives.

Phenomenal occurrences among the beaches of the Maldives is just another beautiful thing to talk about of the beaches in the Maldives. I am talking about the glow-in-the-dark beaches among some of the atolls in the Maldives. Holidaymakers in destinations like the Maldives are sometimes treated to a natural phenomenon that turns the night-time ocean into a field of glowing stars. This magical effect is caused by bio-luminescent plankton that often appears in warm coastal waters. The Maldives is famous for its shining white beaches and teeming marine life and almost every island is visited by glowing plankton. High season for spotting the plankton is mid-summer through to winter but it can appear at any time. One of the island resorts where you may experience this phenomenon is Muhdhoo Island in Baa Atoll where the luxurious Dusit Thani Maldives is located.
