The development of Kunaavashi Island has begun

The development of Kunaavashi Island has begun. The project of developing a five star resort in Vaavu Atoll was inaugurated on the 8th of June 2015 at ceremony held at the luxurious hotel Jen in Male’ City by the Tourism Minster of Maldives, Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Gafoor.

The agreement to develop the project was signed and handed over to the Chinese Company called CJL Investment Pvt Ltd which is a joint venture by Guangdong Beta Oceans Ltd and Maldivian Partners. Kunaavashi Island Retreat & Spa will be the first ever investment in the development of tourism of Maldives by a Chinese private company.

The boutique resort in Vaavu Atoll is located an hour away by speed boat from Ibrahim Nasir International Airport and just 15 minutes by a sea plane. The pristine island which has an area of 1.5 hectare will be increased to 3 hectares with a total built up area of 8,500 sqm. The five star private island resort will consist of 71 luxurious villa of which 33 are set on the immaculate beach and 38 are situated over the turquoise lagoon. Apart from the accommodations, there will be restaurants, a luxury spa and an infinite swimming pool as well.

The Minister of Tourism, Ahmed Adeeb stated that Maldives is a beautiful country that is open to welcoming everyone such as new investors and support them to the fullest. While speaking at the ceremony, the chairman of CJL, Chujin Liang said that the Maldives is a popular holiday destination amongst Chinese travelers and the investment will strengthen the bond between the Maldives and China.

The island has been leased to CJL for 50 years and the construction will begin in September 2015 and is presumed to be opened by the end of 2016.
