Hideaway Beach launches Fresh Water Bottling Plant

The luxury resort, Hideaway Beach launches Fresh Water Bottling Plant. The holiday resort set on Dhonakulhi Island in one of the world’s best holiday destinations, Maldives, has taken a step forward in their eco-friendly concepts by making plans to produce fresh water, made from desalinated ocean water.

General Manager of Hideaway Beach Resort & Spa, Carsten Shieck said: “With the move to producing our own drinking water, we expect to save around 3,000 kilos of empty plastic bottles each year … Producing our own water saves on importing tonnes of bottled water each year and more importantly of course, greatly reduces the number of plastic bottles we need to dispose of in a country that’s still working on refining its recycling capabilities.”

The fresh water production will begin this August, with the aim of making about 400 litres of drinking water (still and sparkling) daily. The bottling plant is situated in the centre of the resorts staff village, right behind the water desalination plant where the seawater will be piped in till it is filtrated and sterilized to the international drinking standards. To be more environmentally-friendly, the five star resort will be serving the fresh water in glass bottles which will be re-used once again after proper sanitization.

In addition to producing fresh drinking water for the guests, the luxurious resort has several plans for the future to ensure their holiday island is as eco-friendly as possible. This includes; collecting rain water, planting organic herb gardens, recycling ‘grey water’ to be used for watering the gardens in times of need, identifying compost and waste re-use opportunities, and using solar power in different areas of the pristine island.

Hideaway Beach Resort & Spa is a five star hotel set on the island of Dhonakulhi in Haa Alifu Atoll. This holiday resort provides a unique holiday experience for those craving a beach vacation in the Sunny Side of Life. Often reputed for being a tropical paradise on earth, Maldives is a tourist destination that is filled with beauty, luxuries and unforgettable holidays.
