Maldives is a country that celebrates auspicious occasions and religious occasions as well. Most of these festive occasions signify the affability and munificence of the people. Significant festivals in Maldives are all well-prepared for by everyone as all such occasions are the major epitomes of enjoyment and exhilaration.


The 9th month of the Hijri calendar is colloquially known as Ramazan. Thirty days of this month are spent fasting. Most of the citizens often renovate their houses and get their selves busy with new sales and buying new kitchen utensils. Ramazan is an auspicious occasion for all Muslims. In fact, the most significant festivals in Maldives are celebrated just after Ramazan.

Eid ul Alha

This is a day for people saving up for pilgrimage to take their step to fly whereas the ones who are unable to afford it stay back and enjoy Eid with food and traditional music and dances!! This is actually a holiday ranging from 5 to 7 in which you get to travel your friends and family to strengthen your bond with them. The evenings are eventful and you might find yourself splashed with a water balloon by the youngsters of the neighbourhood. Prophet’s birthday

The birthday of our last prophet is always celebrated in Maldives. Even in this occasion, families invite each other for feasts.

Kuda Eid

This comes conjoining the days of Ramazan. In this propitious occasion, men and women go for a special prayer to the mosque. Afternoon fills the air of the neighbourhood with the aroma of mouth-watering dishes from all the houses. And the evening is the time to go out with your family and watch the parades or a traditional music show elsewhere. This festival is surely counted among the significant festivals in Maldives.

Independence Day

The 26th of July in celebrated as our Independence Day. On this day, the National Cadet Cops and the National Security Service shall begin the parade starting from the Republic Square. Following that, comes traditional dances by students of different schools in vibrant dresses, and in modern costumes. Be a part of this occasion, and it shall seep in to your heart! It is one of the significant festivals in Maldives.

Republic day

This is a day celebrated by marches and parades. Hence, it is considered as one of the significant festivals in Maldives

National day

This is the day that celebrates the excellent victory of our hero Mohamad Thakurufaanu over the Portuguese. This is one of the most celebrated occasions in which Maldivian schools often perform school plays and ceremonies to celebrate the victory. Surely, it is one of the significant festivals in Maldives.
